Over The Top

The children in years 5 and 6 spent the afternoon with a "WWI soldier" before Easter, finding out about life in the trenches. It was a really interesting afternoon, and will be very helpful with topic work the pupils will be doing this term.

Following The Piper

Robert Burns Day celebrations came to All Saints' Junior School on 23rd January, courtesy of Emscote Infant School. Our federated infant school's year 1 Holly class peformed an assembly on Robert Burns for their parents and then came up to the junior school for an extra performance. The children were led up the road from Emscote by a piper, causing great excitement on arrival at All Saints'. During the assembly the children heard all about Robert Burns and Holly class performed some Scottish Country Dancing and a song, before the whole school was treated to Joe, the piper, performing the traditional "address to a haggis".

Oh Yes They Did!

The school enjoyed a traditional Christmas panto.

Showing Off

All the had fun putting on their own Christmas shows for parents.

Cross Country

The final cross country race of the season took place on the last Saturday in November, in Priory Park in Warwick.

In The Net

The children also enjoy playing netball.

Spelling Programme

After launching the new Read Write Inc. Spelling Programme parents were invited to visit the school to see the new materials being used. The programme focuses on phoncs and teaches the children the different phonemes (speech sounds) and graphemes (spellings of these sounds) of the English language. As well as completing their own spelliing test parents were also given advice on how to help their children at home with segmenting (spelling) and blending (reading). The session was attended by parents from all year groups and feedback from the session was positive.

Reading For Charity

A four-week Readathon raised £766.10 for the charities CLIC Sargent, Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity and Together for Short Lives. The children sought sponsorship to read as many books as possible. On the last day of the Readathon everybody came to school dressed as their favourite book characters.

Wearing Spots Raised Lots!

Friday 15th November saw the children coming to school wearing something spotty or their pyjames in return for a donation to Children in Need. During the afternoon a range of fun activities was organised, some by the staff but many by the children themselves. These included a disco in the hall, penalty shootout, a mini marathon, apple bobbing, netball shoot-out, hula hoop competitions, skipping races, Mario cart competitions on the wii, raffles and cake sales, amongst others. A staggering £1,017 was raised - a huge thank you to all involved.

Grandparents Lunch

On the same day the school hosted a lunch for grandparents. It was a very successful event with over 100 grandparents having lunch with their grandchildren, and it was very much enjoyed by all. There was a lovely atmosphere and we look forward to holding a similar event in the future. The kitchen staff were wonderful, serving 180 lunches.

We Remembered

Class 6VR led an assembly for Remembrance on Monday 11th November. The children were invited to attend school in the uniforms of various cub and brownie units; the whole school observed a minute's silence at 11.00am.
